Sigapore sling-"shots"

Hey everyone free internet at this hostel in Thailand has allowed me to finally post some picutres. We are in Chiang Mai---way up north in Thailand and yesterday we did a jungle trek to some hill tribes, rode elephants, and bamboo rafted down a river. I thought the new year water festival was over...but the river was flooded with natives.....all wanting to splash muddy water all over us...they are on holiday and what better way to escape the heat than to head to the water and that is what they did, sadly today I am feeling a little under the weather. Sucks because we have much to figure out and take care of. It turns out that we are not going to be going to Nepal. There is much politcal unrest there and the American government is saying that it is not safe for us to travel there. I am sad..because I was looking forward to being in the foothills of the Himalayas....but what can you do....I don't want to go there and have to keep a low profile and worry every day....so we have decided to stay in Thailand for an extra month. We will retrun to Singapore for a few days so we do overstay our 30 day visa and spend the rest of the month diving and relaxing along the beaches of Thailand. I am excited to go back to Singapore, because I never got to see the pink dolphins! There were a few others things that we didn't get around to doing so we will hit those up too! The arrangements still have to be made, but for now that is the plan. Hope everyone is doing good...

Me guess where? Can you tell by the checkered tablecloth? Hard Rock Cafe Singapore. We were glad to be able to order a salad we could trust....and for the first time, since being abroad, we actually got good service! A welcome escape from the heat!

People making a wish on the wishing circle, when the fountain is not flowing.

Guiness Book of world records...the world's biggest fountain. The fountain itself only goes off at three intervals during the day. When the water is not flowing from the spouts on the top..they let people walk to the center of the fountain. Around the center a person is supposed to make a wish and then walk clockwise around the water three times, holding their right hand touching the water.....for your wish to come true. At night they have a laser show on the fountain.

When you get near the night zoo...they have tons of animals all in lights along the entrance to the zoo. It really was quite nice and you could tell that they spent alot of time making the zoo an unforgetable experience!

Jayme at the night safari zoo. It is the world's first night zoo. Most of the pictures didn't come out...but it is a must do in Singapore. Since we had been to Africa it was a little cheezy for us...but I do commend them on their efforts to make it seem that the animals are not in enclosures.!!

This a picture of Jayme in front of the Boat Quay with all the restaurants behind him.

This me in front of boat quay at night. This city amazed me, that most of the people eat all the time and are so skinny. Many people flock to this area, at night, where tons of different seafood restaurants (all along the water) bargain for your money. Each of them offering you free drinks or 50% off. The area is really nice and it was crazy to see that many people having dinner around 11-12 at night. During the day this area is virtually empty.

This is the only Hindu temple in Singapore. Singapore, being an old shipping port is the melting pot of different religions. This one is located in their "Chinatown."

Third world stylee....finally in Thailand!

We are safe in Thailand and just in time for their new year here...they have a big celebration with everyone throwing water for like 3 days strait...This supposidly started as a cleansing ritual to clease the evil spirits from the last year and wash the budda images and figures in order to start the new year fresh! However, I think it has kind of turned into like most holidays in the States, the true meaning got lost somewhere in the propeganda.....Like the Easter bunny in the US, and how it used to be about a more religous meaning. The same here....the water is an excuse for everyone to just run about like crazy people soaking everyone and laughing in the streets, everyone has massive squirt guns and noone escapes! It kind of creeped me out a little knowing that the water is not safe here, but at the same time....how could you not smile when an entire city of 6 million people are having a water fight! The religous meaning of the cleansing is still found in the temples and the monks go through days of prayers, praying to budda for a safe and prosperous new year! Great how I didn't even plan to come knowing that it was new year here...but hey sometimes things work out...huh? There is a major language barrier here...last night we had a scary time with a taxi driver who didn't know the address that the hostel had written in Thai writing for us and was just going to leave us in this red light district where there was lots of hookers...I was like no...take us back to Siam a mall....thankGod he understood Siam and no....and said I sorry.... and brought us to the mall...we have had some luck and people help us when they could so all is not that hard to do.....just frustrating at times. But hey English is not the language they speak here and they don't expect people to speak Thai when they come to the US do they? The city itself is dirty and smelly-really smelly-....just walking down the steet...I smell a million differnt smells from urine to garbage to things I don't even want to know! But there are parts that are like Rodeo drive too....This city is very very big!!! We leave today by train for Chiang Mai. It is a sleeper train...but we look forward to the cooler weather and mouintain- jungle terrain. We have had an interesting time in Bangkok....but I am tired of the pollution and look forward to seeing more than just this city. It is really cheap here though....really cheap...we stay in a place that is not so clean but it is only 6 dollars a night, and the best part is that it is close to a good vegetarian restaurant and some other budda statues! Basically for the price it is really great! Two nights ago we went to see a movie at this really nice mall on the other side of the city and we were laughing so hard....it was the nicest movie theatre we had ever been to. The took us to this room to have a complimentary drink, hung will all these pink silk sheets and then a guy came and escorted us to our seats in the movie theatre where we each had our own remote button reclining leather easy chair to sit in. Then he proceeded to give us our own silk pillow and blanket...he brought our coffees and water in on a tray and cookies too. It was like a royal movie theater.... It cost only 12 dollars US per person....I can't imagine why the US doesn't have anything like this... We would never want to see a movie any other way. Lots of other intersting stories to tell but those I will save for another time, and yes I know you all want to see the pictures to go along with the stories...I am behind now...from Bali, Singapore, and now Thailand....I have free internet in Chiang Mai...so hopefully there will be time there! Love to all...and sadly is seems that noone is going to be meeting me in Phuket..... I do have news from the American Counselate in Australia though about my stolen car, but that we won't be able to find out till after Easter weekend! It turns out that they celebrate Easter in Australia and are closed till Tuesday! ;) Hope everyone has a great Easter and that the Easter bunny is good to you all!

Safely in Sigapore

Lots of news from Bali just wanted to start by letting you all know that I am safe in Singapore. First of all a question for home...I had a bad dream the other night that my turtles had died and I have been worried ever since, let me know if my pals are doing okay....and if someone even bothers to clean and feed them....it has been a while and I am a little worried with that bad dream and all. The time is Bali was wonderful. The Balinese people are the most welcome and warm people and they want the world to know that it is safe to travel to their country and since the bomb scares they depend on us coming to see their country for their well-being. It has been very hard on their economy since those events. The place we stayed at was spectacular! It was like staying at a 5 star backpacker hostel. We met so many great people and were treated to several nights of free drinks and welcoming parties. We got to go diving on a wrek from world war 2. Called the US Liberty. It was a good dive and great to be back underwater again! We had an aromatherapy massage and facial, and spent the rest of our time relaxing on the beach and exploring some of the island. Our time there was too short and it is a place I am marking as a must come back to list! There is so much more to tell....but I am itching to explore our new home for the next five days. There is free internet where we are staying so hopefully there will be more news and pictures soon.....
