Happy February
Well I can hardly believe that I have been on the road for three months now.....I have some new pictures to post but I am waiting to find a cheaper internet site...since that process takes me a couple hours to complete....that and for a rainy day. The planning for Australia did not go as expected.....I had no idea that this country was the size of the entire US! I was not thinking it was quite that big and am laughing at my naiveity now...thinking I could see everything in 3 months.... I am not going to be able to see a quarter of it! Luck has turned around a bit and I am now heading up to the Great Barrier Reef, and the beaches on the Queensland coast. I am looking forward to doing a live aboard dive tour for a few days and checking out where the rainforest meets the ocean. We did the great ocean road a few days ago and it was amazing to think that men carved that road by hand. It didn't quite compare to the 101 on the West coast US, but it was spectacular in its own way. I have been really observing Ozzies though and learning the quirks of their lingo and interesting way of saying things. I wonder daily how these words came to be a part of their lingo...being that their decendents in Great Britian don't use these words....I will have to do some research and talk to some more locals. Some of these words are pretty funny to me anyway. For instance shopping carts are called trollys here. This is true everywhere and I told Jayme one day while at the store, isn't it funny that the lady at the checkout called my cart a trolly only to go outside and see that there was a sign that said : please returns your trollys here. Another thing is that men are called blokes.....what is the orgin of this? If anyone knows I would be happy to be enlightened. I daily use the word bloody as an adjective just to amuse myself. I told Jayme, when he was crabby one day that he needed to go on a walkabout to clear his mind...on this bloody hot day! Our mood changed immediately and we were both laughing. It is true that most people say 'good day mate' and also how are you going? not how are doing? everyone says that. And Jeff please keep the profanity from the website.....you will be pleased to know that we did throw some shrimp on the Barbie....and to all those that love BBQ.....you should move here....it is the most popular thing to do here....that and drink some VB beer. Well that is enough rambling for now...hope everyone is doing good....I will hopefully post lots of pictures really soon...
